Current Gen2Recomp version

Current beta0.6.0 Beta was released on August 10, 2026. It is available for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android, with Gen2 Dramatic Shapes offered as a separate optional visual extra.

This version fixed the Team Rocket basement switch puzzle in Goldenrod and stopped the player from walking through walls while sliding on ice in Ice Cave after Mahogany Town.

What you can play now

Pokemon Gold and Silver are the main Gen2Recomp games. Their Johto and Kanto journey includes day and night, breeding and the Day-Care, Pokegear, shiny Pokemon, held items and the familiar Gold and Silver title sequence.

Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow are also supported. They remain available for players who want the Generation 1 games, while this website keeps Gold and Silver as the main focus.

Important beta limitations

Imported saves can lose event progress

A previous update warned that most events reset when a save is brought in from elsewhere. The current update does not say this is fully fixed.

Some updates may need a fresh game setup

Earlier beta notes asked players to prepare their Pokemon game again after updating. Read the current changes before replacing a working version.

Visual performance varies

Dramatic Shapes and higher visual settings can be slower on phones or older computers. The normal view is the safest first test.

Mods need separate testing

A mod made for Gen1Recomp is not automatically safe for Gold or Silver. Enable one mod at a time and keep a backup.

Is Gen2Recomp ready for a full playthrough?

It is ready for players who are comfortable using beta software, keeping backups and accepting that a future update may require extra setup. Players who want a completely finished, fixed experience should wait for a later stable release.
