Add Gen2Recomp mods only after Pokemon Gold or Silver is working normally. Check that each mod supports Gen2, keep a backup, and test one change at a time.

What a Gen2Recomp mod can change
Mods are optional additions made for Gen2Recomp. Depending on the mod, they may change the appearance, menus, quality-of-life features or parts of the game experience. The built-in mod manager lets you add, enable, disable and remove these extras without replacing the normal game.
Before installing any mod
Keep a backup
Copy important progress and settings before changing the active mod list, especially during beta updates.
Read the game support
Look for a clear Gold, Silver or Gen2Recomp statement. Do not rely only on a familiar mod name or screenshot.
Install one at a time
Launch the game after each new mod. If a problem appears, you will know which recent change to disable first.
Install and enable a Gen2Recomp mod
- Keep the downloaded mod as providedIf the mod is supplied as a compressed file for importing, do not extract or rebuild it unless its own instructions say to.
- Open the mod managerPress F10 on a computer. On Android, use the Mods option shown in the app.
- Import the modChoose the downloaded mod and wait for its name to appear in the manager.
- Enable it for the gameTurn it on, apply the change and restart Gen2Recomp if requested.
- Test with a safe saveCheck startup, movement, menus, battles and saving before continuing important progress.
Current Gen2-specific option
A larger mod directory will be added only after more mods are confirmed for the current Gen2Recomp version. This prevents Gen1-only downloads from being presented as safe choices for Gold and Silver.
Fix a mod conflict
- Close the game and back up the latest working save.
- Disable the most recently added mod.
- Open the game and repeat the action that caused the problem.
- If the problem remains, disable other mods one at a time.
- Keep the problem mod disabled until it receives a compatible update.
If the normal game works with all mods disabled, the problem is likely related to a mod or a combination of mods rather than the main setup.
