Computer setup guide
Windows, Mac and Linux share one Gen2Recomp ZIP, but each system starts it differently. Use the exact launcher below, choose Pokemon Gold or Silver, and let the first setup finish.

Double-click Play-Mac.command. The first run may ask to install Apple command-line tools, Homebrew and the LÖVE game app, and Homebrew can request your Mac password. Approve each prompt only after confirming the current download. If macOS blocks this one starter, use its normal Privacy & Security approval instead of disabling protection for all apps.
Install Python 3 and LÖVE 11 from your distribution's normal software manager. Then open a terminal in the extracted folder and run scripts/play.sh. Linux does not currently have the same double-click setup as Windows or Mac.
Copy the complete Gen2Recomp folder only after closing the app. Keep an extra backup of your progress before testing the copied folder on another computer.
Later launches normally open the prepared game without asking you to select it again. Before adding mods, walk around, open the menu, enter a battle and create a save. This confirms that the normal game is working.
