Gen2Recomp is made by UNDERdecodedHD and builds on the earlier Gen1Recomp project by bryanthaboi and BOIS CLUB GAMES.

Where should I download Gen2Recomp?

Use this website’s Download page. Its download buttons open the current Gen2Recomp release and show which file belongs to computers, Android, or Dramatic Shapes.

Which devices can run Gen2Recomp?

Current tested downloads are available for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android. Android uses a manual install and the current APK is development-signed. There is no ready-to-use iOS or Anbernic download in the current release.

Which Pokemon games are supported?

Pokemon Gold, Silver, Red, Blue and Yellow are supported. Gold and Silver are the main Gen2 focus of the project and this website.

Does Pokemon Crystal work?

Pokemon Crystal is not part of the current confirmed support list. Use Gold or Silver for the Generation 2 setup.

Does Gen2Recomp include Pokemon Gold or Silver?

No. You must provide your own legally obtained compatible US copy of the game. Gen2Recomp and this website do not provide Pokemon games.

How long does the first setup take?

Pokemon Gold or Silver can take a couple of minutes to prepare on the first launch. Later launches normally open without asking for the game again.

Will my Gen2Recomp save work after an update?

Saves created inside Gen2Recomp are expected to remain compatible unless a release says otherwise. Keep a backup before every beta update.

Can I import a save from a cartridge or another app?

Importing is experimental. Story-event progress can reset, so keep the original save untouched and test only a copied version.

What is Gen2 Dramatic Shapes?

It is a separate optional extra that gives Pokemon Gold and Silver a raised, block-like 3D-style world. The normal Gen2Recomp game works without it.

Can I use Gen1Recomp mods with Gold or Silver?

Do not assume they work. Each mod should clearly state Gen2Recomp, Gold or Silver support and should be tested one at a time with a backup.

Can I change the keyboard or controller buttons?

Yes. Open Options, then Controls, and choose new buttons for movement, A, B, Start and Select.

What should I do if Gen2Recomp feels slow?

Try Auto, Balanced or Low in the performance option. Disable Dramatic Shapes during testing. Lower visual quality does not change game progress.

What should I back up before updating?

Keep a copy of important progress, settings and the previous working Gen2Recomp version. Test the normal game before turning mods back on.
