Before installing on Android

Use the Android download

The computer download will not install on Android. Choose the file clearly labelled for Android on this website’s Download page.

Prepare your own game

Keep a compatible US copy of Pokemon Gold or Silver in a folder that Android’s file picker can reach, such as Downloads or Documents.

Leave enough free space

Keep extra storage available for the app, your prepared game and future saves. Do not begin with a nearly full device.

Keep the old app for now

If you are updating, do not uninstall the working version until you have protected your progress and confirmed the update opens it.

Controls and smoother play on Android

Use the on-screen buttons for movement and the main game actions. If you connect a controller, open Options → Controls to check the button layout before continuing an important save.

If the game feels slow, open the performance option and tryAuto, Balanced orLow. These choices reduce extra visual effects. They do not change your Pokemon, battles or story progress.

Understand Android permission prompts

Gen2Recomp should not need access to contacts, calls, camera or location. A few prompts can appear for game-related features, and you can review them before deciding.

Files or storage

Older Android versions may request storage access so you can choose your own Pokemon game and keep app data. Newer devices normally use the standard file picker.

Physical activity

This is used only when an optional step-sync feature asks for it. Normal Gold or Silver play does not require you to approve that feature.

Network access

The app includes a link-play option, which is why Android lists network access. There is no account or sign-in for normal solo play.

Installation access

Allow installation only for the browser or file manager that opened the current download. Turn that permission off again afterward if you do not normally install downloaded apps.

Updating or reinstalling

  • Close Gen2Recomp before starting an update.
  • Keep a separate copy of important progress whenever possible.
  • Install the new version over the old one only when Android allows it.
  • Open the normal game before turning Dramatic Shapes back on.

If Android setup does not work

Installation is blocked

Return to the Android prompt and allow installation for the browser or file manager you used. Do not enable it for every app.

The game cannot be selected

Confirm that you are using Gold or Silver from the supported US release and that the file is not still inside another download.

The first launch seems stuck

Keep the app open for a couple of minutes. Avoid switching to a battery-saving mode during the first setup.

The 3D view is slow

Disable Dramatic Shapes or lower visual quality. Confirm normal play is smooth before adding the 3D-style view again.
