Optional Pokemon Gold & Silver 3D mod

Gen2Recomp Dramatic Shapes

Gen2 Dramatic Shapes gives towns, routes and indoor areas a raised, block-like 3D appearance. Install it only after normal Gen2Recomp gameplay is working.

What Dramatic Shapes changes

The normal Pokemon Gold and Silver world is flat. Dramatic Shapes raises the map into a layered scene, giving buildings, paths, walls and terrain more depth while keeping the familiar pixel artwork.

The normal game

Gen2Recomp runs Pokemon Gold or Silver, handles your progress and provides the controls. It works without Dramatic Shapes.

The optional 3D-style view

Dramatic Shapes changes presentation. It is not a separate Pokemon game and does not replace the main Gen2Recomp download.

What you can change after it is enabled

Dramatic Shapes is more than one fixed camera angle. Its options let you choose how much depth you want and turn demanding effects off when a phone or older computer needs smoother play.

Voxel viewing angle

Move through several raised-world angles, or return to the normal flat view without removing the mod.

First- and third-person views

Experimental camera choices let you look and move from closer to the character. Test these with a copied save first.

3D battle scenes

Battles can take place on the map with a movable camera, while an option can keep the classic back sprite on screen.

Water, lighting and miniature effects

Optional reflections, time-of-day choices, curved horizons and tilt-shift effects can change the mood of the world.

Install Gen2 Dramatic Shapes

  1. Test Pokemon Gold or Silver firstOpen the normal game, walk around, enter a battle and create a save. If something already fails, fix that before installing the visual extra.
  2. Download Gen2 Dramatic ShapesUse the separate Dramatic Shapes button on the Download page. Keep the downloaded file compressed so Gen2Recomp can import it.
  3. Open the mod managerPress F10 on Windows, Mac or Linux. On Android, open the Mods option from the app interface.
  4. Import and enable the extraChoose the downloaded Dramatic Shapes file, wait for it to appear in the list, then enable it for Pokemon Gold or Silver.
  5. Return to the game and adjust the viewLoad a safe test save and confirm the raised world appears. If the view is too steep or performance is slow, use a gentler visual setting.

Recommended first test

  • Start with the normal performance option on your device.
  • Walk through an outdoor town, a route and an indoor building.
  • Enter and leave a battle to check the transition.
  • Open the menu and confirm text remains easy to read.
  • Create a separate test save before continuing your main progress.

If everything is smooth, try different tilt, zoom and visual-effect choices. Phones and older computers may need a lower setting than newer desktops.

On a computer, 3 moves through the main voxel camera choices. A controller or touch screen can use Select for the same change. Other Dramatic Shapes settings are available from the Options menu, so you do not need to memorize every shortcut.

If the 3D-style view does not appear

Check that it is enabled

Return to the mod manager and make sure Dramatic Shapes appears in the list and is turned on for the game you launched.

Use the original download

Import the downloaded compressed file. Do not choose an extracted folder or a file meant for Gen1Recomp.

Test without other mods

Turn off other visual extras, restart Gen2Recomp and test Dramatic Shapes by itself.

Return to the normal view

If the game becomes slow or displays incorrectly, disable Dramatic Shapes. Your normal Pokemon game should still work.
